Happy Winter In Michigan!

While Michigan winters might not be the most pleasant, there are plenty of ways to enjoy it! So, throw on that parka and shovel your way out of the house! We promise it will be worth the bitter struggle! Here are some of our favorite ways to beat the winter blues, and enjoy the snowy season.

Ice Skating

Ice Skating

Whether you’re a pro skater, or can barely stand up on the ice, hitting the rink is always a blast! Take the little ones and teach them how to skate. Just make sure to bundle them up in case they take a fall or two, and it will be a great experience for everyone! Our favorite place to skate is at The Rink At Campus Martius. There, you can admire the gorgeous Christmas tree and twinkling lights that surround you while sipping on a hot cocoa!

Shopping

While this may seem like the typical thing to do with the holiday season, we’re sharing the not-so-typical way to do it! Spice up that holiday shopping by hitting the Detroit Holiday Markets at Cadillac Square and Capitol Park. Filled with over 30 local vendors, with a wide range of goods and price points, you’ll be able to find something for everyone on your list. Not to mention, all the stores are tiny pop-up glass houses. It doesn’t get more unique than that!

Drinking

Garrido's Bistro

I bet you’re thinking we’re going to suggest sitting down and having yourself a tall glass of wine to get you through the holidays, but that’s not the case! We mean sitting down in a warm little café with a gargantuan glass of hot cocoa in front of you. There’s nothing that a little chocolate can’t fix, right? Garrido’s Bistro in Grosse Point has the hot cocoa of your dreams! Piled high with cookies, cakes, candies, and more, this dessert will require the entire family to finish it!

Eating

Fort Street Gallery

If there’s one thing that Detroit does not have in short supply, it’s great places to dine! One of the newest sensations to hit the area is the Fort Street Galley! Located on Fort Street in Detroit, this building is home to 4 new restaurants: Isla Detroit, Pursue Detroit, Lucky’s BBQ, and Allenby Detroit. Each location serves up something unique, making it a great place to take the whole family!

Picking

Christmas Tree Picking

Have you found that perfect pine to place in your home yet? If you haven’t, heading to your nearest tree farm with the family is an experience you’ll forever hold near and dear. Spend time searching through the snow for “the one”, cut it down, and haul it home to decorate! Our suggestion? Blake’s Orchard Christmas Tree Farm.  Make sure you grab some hot cider and donuts to keep everyone toasty while you’re there!
