Not Your Granny’s La-Z-Boy

I just want to begin by saying that before my visit to the Sterling Heights La-Z-Boy Boy Store, La-Z-Boy furniture wasn’t really even on my radar. The name La-Z-Boy just conjured up images of comfortable, utilitarian furniture–you know, the kind of pieces you’d find in Grandma’s living room, with a knit or crochet throw over them. Sure, I knew La-Z-Boy chairs could be cozy, but never did I imagine they could be stylish or even downright beautiful. Furthermore, I never really imagined La-Z-Boy selling anything beyond, well, reclining chairs.  I blown away when walked into the store on Lakeside Circle. Now I see why Brooke Shields chose to become this company’s new spokesperson.

First of all, this is not my grandma’s La-Z-Boy–not by a long shot. La-Z-Boy offers furniture. That’s right, furniture. Yes, there are chairs, but there are also couches, tables, lamps, and a range of accessories. And let me just say that the furniture is BEAUTIFUL. It’s modern, stylish, and simply amazing. I saw the kind of furniture I’d want to furnish my home with, not just stick in a corner for whenever I want to put my feet up.

I expected to see rows upon rows of La-Z-Boy chairs inside this store (yawn), but I was so wrong. La-Z-Boy had vignettes set up, demonstrating just how gorgeous and colorful you can make your home with its furniture. We’re talking the whole shebang of couches, chairs, love seats, and ottomans matched with coffee tables, end tables, lamps, vases, and artwork–truly marvelous furniture and decor. Did I mention there were rugs too? But get this: the wood furniture, artwork, rugs and accessories aren’t just there for display. You can buy it from La-Z-Boy to create a complete look for, say, your own living room, without ever going to another store. Some things you have to special order from the store catalog, but you can buy everything you see there!

Of course, La-Z-Boy does still sell its recliners, but they have come a very, very long way. I saw exquisite chairs that I never would have guessed reclined, but they did! And La-Z-Boy hasn’t sacrificed comfort for style. Its furniture is still a pleasure to sit on.

Not content to just offer its incredible line of furniture, La-Z-Boy also provides the following:

  • 900 different fabrics to choose from. If you find a couch or chair you love, you can get it in a fabric that fits your style perfectly. Pick your furniture first, and then choose a fabric right there in the store.
  • A complementary visit from an interior designer. The Sterling Heights La-Z-Boy has a degreed interior designer on staff. Just say the word, and she will head to your home and do a complete design board for FREE.
  • Salespeople who DO NOT EARN COMMISSIONS.  This one I love. I understand that salespeople have to earn a living, but I hate feeling attacked the moment I walk into a store because they have commissions to earn. It just makes for a high-pressure, uncomfortable experience. La-Z-Boy’s salespeople earn their wages without commissions, so the shopping experience is much more pleasant.

All in all, the new La-Z-Boy Store gets both thumbs up from me, and I know just where to go when it’s time to redecorate my living room.
