The Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm will host its annual Stonewall Pumpkin Festival on Saturday, October 13, 2012 from 10-4 p.m.
Guests are invited to carve a pumpkin and place it on the stone walls surrounding the Museum property. After the evening lighting, guests can take their pumpkin home. The Museum is hoping to exceed the 1,100 pumpkins lit last year! Activities during the day include make-and-take art projects with the Paint Creek Center for the Arts, hayrides, a pioneer playground with Friends of Dinosaur Hill, music featuring a 1:00 performance by Guy Louis and his Autumn Americana Music Review and the group Two Talls, food, a hay jump, and Museum tours of the Dairy Barn exhibits. In addition, an outdoor exhibit of scarecrows made by local organizations will be on display. At 12:00, Laura Cassar will read her children’s book Night of 1,000 Pumpkin, based on this event, and at 12:15 Danny Glazier, a North Hill Elementary student will read his new book If I had 100 Pockets. Both books will be available for purchase.
Admission to the Pumpkin Festival is $ 7 per person and includes a pumpkin. Kids 2 and under are free. The Museum will provide stencils and carving tools, however guests are encouraged to bring their own carving tools from home.
In addition to the daytime events there is an evening lighting of the pumpkins that runs from 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and the requested admission is one can of food or gently used gloves and hats for the Rochester Neighborhood House. The major sponsor for this event is Genisys Credit Union.
