There is one sure way to get what you want for Mother’s Day…… pick the items out yourself!  I knew that I really wanted to perk up our dormant patio area so why not achieve two goals at once, get what I wanted for Mother’s Day and improve the patio.  I also knew that Kmart had a good sale going on their patio furniture and décor, so my husband, son and I stopped in and checked it out last night.  You can check out a photo story of our shopping trip here.  In honor of Mother’s Day, Kmart is having another sale from May 6-12. Get 20% off outdoor cushions and umbrellas as well as 20% off planters, fountains and garden décor!

I was pleasantly surprised at the Outdoor Living selection – they had way more summertime items than I expected to find.  I loved the fact that you could find things in every price range. There were several different dining sets on display. The store was also featuring different seating arrangements – not to mention a really nice one – front and center when you first walked in the store.  We have a vintage iron dining set in our backyard that just needed some spring clean up with sanding and a new coat of spray paint.  The top item on my wish list was seating cushions for the four chairs.  Since the chairs and table were black with a tan umbrella, I wanted a pop of color. It was a tough decision, I went back and forth between green and burnt orange seat cushions ($16.99 each), but eventually I chose the burnt orange with a smaller animal print back cushion ($9.99 each).  Most of the cushions are reversible, a really nice feature because it gives me versatility if I want to change things up later.

Once I had the cushions picked out, we decided to see what other accessories we could find to spice things up for our summertime barbeques.  For some reason, when my husband is with me, we always spend more money??  Take a look at the other items we purchased.

A glow-in-the-dark gazing ball ($14.99) and stand ($14.99), I had one of these beauties before we were married and it mysteriously disappeared from my front yard!!  This one is going in the back yard – where we spend most of our time anyway. I’m not to sure if it will last long with an eight-year old whiffle ball champ in the family, but we’ll have to give it a chance.

I also selected an umbrella round tea light holder ($15.99) that goes on the top of the table – around the umbrella pole.

Finishing out the list was a string of lantern metal cover lights ($11.99).  We have friends that have strings of lights in their patio area and it always looks so nice at night.  I went with clear lights … I guess I thought the blue, green and red lights would be too Christmas-ey.

First thing this morning I revved up the power sander and sanded the dining set – thankfully the table is on the smaller side so it didn’t take too long.  I think the power sander is my new favorite tool!  Then my husband spray painted the set. It’s amazing what a couple cans of spray paint ($2.99) can do. The set looked brand new when he was done!  Then we strung the lights, set up the gazing ball and put the candle holder on the table top.

The space looks so much more inviting now.  I can picture us having a nice Mother’s Day cook-out on our spruced up patio, or just sitting out there having a nice cold glass of lemonade on a hot day.

Though, being a mother is consider as one of the most noble profession yet there has something on it which is all worth of the reason. I’m also a mother of two and been raising my kids all alone and sometimes had encountered some difficulties but believe me I never regretted the day I became a mother. And as to our post, it only shows that you are a full pledge mother which speaks even louder on the photo’s. Happy mother’s day to you and to all the mother’s out there.:)
