Get to Know the Green in Rochester

There is more green space in Rochester than in southern California, where I’m from, that’s for sure!  And, I’m sure I have yet to see all of the beautiful green Rochester spaces!

I’m thinking of attending the Green Space Discovery Hike and I wouldn’t think twice about bringing my Sony DSLR A33L!  What a great opportunity to get some pictures of the nature around my beloved city!

Here is the email I got with the details of the hike:

On Saturday, April 23, 2011, from 10am to 2pm, a Green Space Discovery Hike will take place in Rochester Hills.

The one-hour Hike is a dynamic way of discovering the green spaces the City of Rochester Hills has purchased for its residents’ enjoyment.  The Hike will take place along the Clinton River Trail, which passes by several of these undeveloped parcels now protected as perpetual green space.

The Hike will also include information stations, where volunteers will share information about the plants, animals, ecology, and history of these properties, as well as some of the challenges in preserving natural areas.

A raffle with terrific prizes will be held afterward for everyone who completes the Hike and visits all the information stations.  The raffle is made possible by the generous donations of our supporters.

The Discovery Hike Information Tent will be located in the River Crest Medical Center parking lot, near the corner of Avon Rd. and Livernois Rd. in Rochester Hills. There, hikers can pick up their raffle cards and lots of information about green spaces, the Clinton River corridor, and outdoor recreation throughout the City.

The Hike is open to residents and non-residents alike.
