Avoiding food dye has been added to my long list of things to avoid when choosing for for my girls.

The scary thing is that food dye is in most foods these days.  From yogurt and salad dressing to cereal and even juice.  According to the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI), food dyes should be banned.

The artificial dyes may cause allergic reactions, hyperactivity and behavioral problems in children.

Did you know that the European Government has already banned the artificial food dye in their foods because they are a rainbow of risks.

I have decided to avoid these dyes that I find listed on ingredient labels:  Blue 1 and 2, Citrus Red 2, Green 3, Red 3 and 40 and Yellow 5 and 6.

I know it will be hard, especially if the girls are shopping with me because so many foods have these dyes in them, but I’d rather fight with them now and avoid the long term physical side affects that they could endure.

The last bag of goldfish crackers I bought were colored with natural dyes – like beets. The colors were a little different than previous bags but they still looked good.
