Saying my life is hectic is a true understatement.  Since 2011began, my life has been a whirl wind.  I’m taking ownership.  I will OWN 2011!

Florida to Meet with Elmer’s

I had a trip planned to go to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida to meet with the Elmer’s team.  You see, I work full time at the Community Director of a community called Social Fabric.  I was there with two of my co-workers and a team of bloggers chosen by Elmer’s to attend a two day meeting.  We brainstormed, made fun crafts, participated in fun games and made new friends.

The immersion was great!  Elmer’s learned a ton about the bloggers and blogging in general and the bloggers learned a lot about Elmer’s.

To Dallas so No Kid Goes Hungry

From Florida, I flew straight to Dallas for a Cooking Matters Blogger Boot Camp.  This is the second year that ConAgra has invited me to participate and learn about the heartbreaking issues surrounding children and hunger.  Since the first blogger immersion I attended for the campaign called Child Hunger Ends Here, I have made it my personal mission and the mission of other Detroit Mommies to educate and participate in the fight to end child hunger.

I flew to Dallas where I stayed in the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine, TX.  I wish I could have brought my entire family because the lodge is really cool!  With the tight schedule we were given, I only had time to look at all of the cool things the Great Wolf Lodge had to offer, but no time to “play”.  I will take my children one day soon because I know they would love it!

Our schedule was packed full of education.  We went to the North Texas Food Bank and took a tour of the facility, then to the Trinity River Mission where we met children that participate in a special program for children in need, ate dinner at Stephan Pyles restaurant, learned first hand how extensive it is to apply for aid by participating in exercises, went shopping at Walmart to learn about nutrition and then went back to the North Texas Food Bank to participate in a Hunger Matters program where we prepared and ate a meal.  I was completely exhausted by the time I got home at 1 am on Friday.

I learned a wealth of information on both of my trips that I will be sharing little by little with you.

I took the pledge to help end child hunger.  If you’d like to take the pledge,go to NoKidHungry.org

Disclosure:  Elmer’s is a client as I stated above and ConAgra provided my airfare to and from Dallas, TX and a stipend for child care while I was away from home.  They also donated $1000 to Feeding America in my name!

Wow – sounds like you had a great, albeit exhausting, time.

Huge props to ConAgra for the donation in your name!
