The Panera Bread Foundation opens its second non for profit community cafe called “Panera Cares”.

I honestly have never heard of these Panera Cares cafes and when I was sent the press release for the opening of this cafe, I was more than glad to share of the opening with the Detroit Mommies readers.

The opening is Monday, November 22, 2010 in Dearborn.

Panera Cares is a community cafe of shared responsibility. One of the goals of this charitable venture is to ensure that everyone who needs a meal gets one – whether or not they can afford it. People are encouraged to take what they need and donate their fair share. There are no prices or cash registers, only suggested donation levels and donation bins. At the end of the day, this community cafe isn’t about offering a hand out. It’s about offering a hand up to those who need it.

I’m just amazed by this wonderful concept!  I really hope the word spreads about this cafe and the people who can really benefit get the opportunity to fill their hungry bellies with peace of mind.

That’s really cool. My husband and I worked with Panera in Florida. They donated whatever didn’t sell at the end of the day to our organization, delivering food and coffee to the homeless. I’ve never heard of this venture before, though. I’ve always loved Panera – now I love them even more!
