A Patriotic Pooches event offers canines and their owners a dog-gone good way to celebrate Independence Day, 10 – 11 a.m. on July 3 at Orion Oaks Dog Park.

“This free event allows dogs and owners to celebrate the Fourth of July in style,” Parks Helper Maureen Jones said. “This is also a great opportunity for dogs and their owners to socialize outdoors.”

Pooches and pals can enjoy a canine carnival of games, giveaways and contests. Prizes will be awarded for the most patriotic-dressed pooch and for the best-themed dog and owner team attire.

No pre-registration required. Daily pass or 2010 Annual Vehicle Permit is required and can be purchased in advance online or at Orion Oaks County Park the day of the event.

Orion Oaks County Park is located at 2301 Clarkston Road in Orion Township.

On Aug. 3, 2010, Oakland County voters will be asked to vote on the renewal of a 10-year millage of .2415 for the purpose of operating, maintaining, improving and acquiring parks and recreation areas and facilities in Oakland County.
