I’ll never forget being pregnant in southern California!  We lived inland in the Temecula Valley and a typical summer day is in the 90′ and up.  Let’s just say that after 9 a.m. taking the kids to the park will likely get them a burned behind if you try to place them on a swing or slide.

I remember being hot in my air conditioned house and when we decided to take a trip to Florida in August, I cringed when I thought about what I was going to wear to stay cool in the humidity.

These are my top picks of summer wear for a pregnant mom and what I wore and survived when living in the dry heat of southern California and the humid heat of Florida.

Tank tops– I lived in the ribbed 2×2 maternity tank tops that I found at JCPenny.  They come in lots of fun colors, are comfortable, keep their shape and are under $10!

Capris– I lived in my convertible capris!  I could dress them up with a flowing top or down with a rib tank top.  I liked capris better than shorts because they were so versatile.  JC Penny $24.99-$27.99

Flip Flops– I lived in flip flops during the summers I was pregnant.  Not only did they help to keep my feet cool, but they were also great when my feet were swollen or when my belly was too swollen to bend over to put my shoes on. Gladiator flip flops at Target $4.54

Dresses-  The most comfortable thing to wear when pregnant is a dress.  I love maxi dresses because they are pretty and flattering.  I love the tie dyed maternity maxi dress by Liz Lange for Target.  It’s only $32.99!

Swimsuit– A great fitting maternity swimsuit is a must-have when pregnant during the summer.  I would fill up a baby pool, place it in a shaded area in my backyard and cool off.  This Liz Lange for Target maternity tankini is cute and will grow along with your tummy:) only $22.99 at Target.

T-Shirts– My FAVORITE maternity graphic tee’s are from 2 Chix.  When pregnant with my second daughter, I asked my fellow mommies what their favorite brand of graphic maternity tee’s were and the majority said 2 Chix.  I bought one and loved the material, the length and the fun graphics.  I still wear mine as a night shirt because it is so comfortable and stretchy.  They run about $38 and are well worth the splurge.  Hint: I actually bough one on clearance that said “slightly imperfect” and still haven’t found the imperfection!  It was half the price!
