Oakland County Parks hosts a Greenhouse Open House on May 5 at the newly acquired greenhouses at Waterford Oaks County Park to showcase community volunteerism efforts, partnership opportunities, ecological and educational initiatives.

“Volunteers and staff have been spending quality time in the greenhouses growing annuals and perennials, and we want to showcase what they accomplished,” Recreation Program Supervisor Rachel Boyd said. “We’ll also share our plans for the future, including education programs and community gardens.”

The event runs 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Guided and self-guided tours along with refreshments are included.

An informational workshop “Is a Community Garden in Your Future?” presented by Michigan State University Extension, will be held  from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Oakland County Executive Office Conference Center. Cost is $15 for this workshop. To register, contact Linda Smith at (248) 858-0887 or e-mail smithlin@oakgov.com by April 30.
