Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird!

No, it’s a plane. And they are loud!

As someone who lives very near Selfridge Air National Guard Base, I can tell you the air show is coming and it’s only about to get louder, which will make my kids’ naptime and television watching nearly impossible.

However, I have to admit, those talented pilots and their planes put on quite a show that I can watch from my backyard. On Aug. 22 and 23, the public is invited to the base to get their own up-close and personal look at the planes and learn more about what each cab do.

Planes and jets like the Thunderbirds, F-15, F-16, C-130, tankers and helicopters in use today will be putting on aerial demonstrations and be available on the ground to walk through and explore.

The air show is a family-friendly event.  Be prepared for loud noises, lots of walking, time in the sun and low flying aircraft. The Selfridge Air Show web site (www.selfridgeairshow.org) has information on what you can bring in and what you should leave at home.

The shows open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Flying begins at 11 a.m.

Enjoy the show!
