picking raspberries

Yesterday a friend invited me to pick raspberries with her.  What a treat!

I got just enough to make one batch.

Close your eyes & take a deep breath.  Can you smell the raspberries?

I just made my first batch of raspberry jam this summer.  My house smells AMAZING!!  Who needs potpourri?

I love making cooked jams and jellies.  I know many people think I’m crazy, but there’s something about doing it all myself.  If I could get a permanent clean up person, I could  “jam” all day long.  Then, after the first snowflake flies, to pop open a perfectly sealed jar of homemade raspberry jam…there’s just nothing like it.

It smells like summer.

You do know about the rule, right?  You can’t open anything you put up until the first snowflake flies.  I’m probably the only person in MI who’s wishing for snow right now.  😉  Honestly forces me to admit, though, that I skim a little extra when I’m taking the foam off, so we have a little to nibble now.  It’s SO hard to wait.

The pop, pop, pop is the sound of the lids sealing as the jam cools.  That’s what I like to hear.  Hate to have all that work go to waste on a batch of ruined jam.  Actually, ruined jam usually ends up being ice cream topping, so either way, we win. 😉

Next up…weeding the garden.
