Detroit Symphony Orchestra presents “Big Band Bash”

Just another brilliant performance by the DSO on Friday, July 31, 2009 at Meadow Brook Music Festival. The Dave Bennett Sextet and Conductor, Thomas Wilkins, quickly dominated the stage with snappy classical pieces by Benny Goodman, the big band era’s “King of Swing”.

The large crowd of fans could not resist from head bopping, fingers snapping and hands tapping all night long. Usually classical concerts are quiet as the audience sits very still awaiting their only cue to applaud but this collection of tunes demanded our attention from head to toe. What an exhilarating experience!

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra continues to raise the bar every year and with each performance. They are more than just a group of talented musicians, they are a main artery that flows life into Metro Detroiters. I will always be a fan.
