It was “Party Time” on Ice at the Palace
February 26, 2010 by Courtney Velasquez
It was one party after another at Disney on Ice “Let’s Celebrate” at the Palace of Auburn Hills!
The Disney characters celebrated Christmas, an Un-Birthday, Valentine’s Day, Halloween and more! My daughters (ages 3 1/2 and 6) were glued to their seats!
A few suggestions:
- Eat before the show. A bucket of popcorn and two lemonades in keepsakes cups: $32
- Remember parking is $10
- Buy a few goodies at the Disney Store and hide them in your purse. When the kids see all the merchandise for sale that is WAY overpriced, pull a goodie out of your “stash” that cost you a fraction of the price of what is sold at the event.
- It’s not freezing. Dress as you normally would. Princess dresses optional.
- Get a potty break in before the show starts…you don’t want to miss anything! There is an intermission, but everybody else is scrambling to grab food and a potty break as well.
- Have fun! Our entire family enjoyed the show!
Tickets for Disney On Ice presents Let’s Celebrate! are available at the Palace of Auburn Hills Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, The Palace Locker Room Stores and www.ticketmaster.com. To order tickets by phone, call 1-800-745-3000.
Show dates/times: Wednesday, Feb. 24 and Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27 at 11:30 a.m.; 3:30 p.m.; and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 28 at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Tickets start at $15. All seats are reserved. For group rates and information, call 248-377-8638.

Oakland County Parks Hosts Name That Playground Contest!
February 24, 2010 by Courtney Velasquez
I’m ready for the sun to shine, the birds to sing and the green grass to tickle my toes. Cabin fever has set in and all I can think about is packing a picnic and heading to the park with my girls. This is one of our favorite Spring and Summer pastimes living in Metro Detroit.
Oakland County Parks is hosting a Playground Naming Contest for children age 12 or younger.
Kids are invited to submit a creative and original name for the new universally-accessible playscape opening this summer at Waterford Oaks County Park. Michigan’s landscape is the theme of the nearly 13,000-square-foot structure featuring simulated rock, water and fossil characteristics indicative of the Great Lakes State.
Applications for the Oakland County Parks Playground Naming Contest must be submitted by Monday, March 15.
The winner will receive a prize package valued at more than $200, which includes one week of outdoor day camp and an Oakland County Parks annual vehicle permit. The winner will also be invited to attend the grand opening of the playground on July 7.
Entry forms can be found at DestinationOakland.com and should be mailed to: Oakland County Parks, Playground Naming Contest, 2800 Watkins Lake Road, Waterford MI 48328 or submitted via e-mail to Becky Stepp at steppr@oakgov.com.
The Palm Pre Plus: a breeze to use
February 15, 2010 by Courtney Velasquez
The other day I was sans computer. All day long I kept trying to log on to the internet and to my dismay, it showed the computer was logged on, but it would not connect to the internet. Do you know how frustrating that can be for a mommy blogger that has blog posts to write, emails to answer, tweets to respond to and whrrls to whrrl about?
I was frustrated, but only to a point because I had the Palm Pre Plus and was able to do most everything on my list except write blog posts. There was NO WAY I was going to write an entire blog post with tiny little keys, but if I had to, I could have!
I’ve been working with Verizon reviewing their phones and the latest mobile device that I was reviewing was the Palm Pre Plus. It took less than a few hours to figure the phone out and that was without using the “getting started” guide. I am the type that likes to figure things out”, so I went guide free and then later opened the guide to see what I missed.
You will need to learn “gestures” to move from screen to screen, but they come easy and are obvious once figured out. The screen is crystal clear and the colors are vibrant. I also tried the camera out and it took great pictures and they were easy to email.
Oh, and setting email accounts up was a breeze. Again, no need to use the manual. Everything was so obvious and simple to navigate.
The keys that bordered the keyboard felt a tiny bit cramped and if there was something that they could improve upon, that would be my only complaint. Other than that, the phone is great, the screen is a very nice size and the look and feel is sleek and smooth.
It ended up that everything was ok with our internet. We just needed to reset the network router. Go figure!
Disclosure: I was given a Palm Pre Plus to review from Verizon. The opinions expressed in this post are mine and mine alone and are not influenced in any way by anyone.

Cover Girl recently came out with these Smoky Eye Kits that have everything you need to create a smoky eye. There are 3 kits: The Glamorous Look, Natural Look and the Bold Look. I chose to try the Glamorous Look because I go for the natural look every day and it feels so good to glam it up every once in awhile.

- CoverGirl SmokyShadow Blast
- CoverGirl LashBlast Volume Mascara
- CoverGirl LineExact Liquid Liner Pen

Now, it would be good if I actually followed the instructions, which you will notice I don’t, but in the end, I do achieve a glammed up smoky eye perfect for a night out on the town!

Get Ready for Superbowl Sunday: healthy snack ideas
February 6, 2010 by Courtney Velasquez
This Sunday is the big day… the Saints vs Colts. I really don’t care who wins, but I do care that my hubby will be glued to the couch on Sunday with the only exercise being trips to the bathroom and the hand-to-mouth gesture.
With that said, I will try and have healthy, yet tasty snacks on hand for him to enjoy during Superbowl Sunday.
Target sent me some snacks to try that will be perfect for game day! They sent me Archer Farms Organic Mango Salsa and Archer Farms Blue Corn chips. They also sent me Archer Farms Simply Balanced crackers, but they came completely broken in little pieces, so I won’t be serving them with cheese slices for my hubby as planned. They are however very tasty and whole wheat, so I put them in a baggy for my 13 month old and gave her the little pieces for a snack.
Back to the Archer Farms Organic Mango Salsa and Archer Farms Blue Corn chips. Talk about y-u-m-m-y! Very tasty! Actually, you might find me digging in with a spoon…the salsa is that yummy! I looked for it at my local Target last night and couldn’t find it. Not sure if it isn’t out yet, sold out or what, but I couldn’t find it.
Anyway, salsa and chips are so much better for the “hubster” than a sour cream dip and I rest assured he is eating healthy.
Super Bowl Snacks from Target’s Nutritionist Dr. Susan Mitchell:
- Pizza Bites: Take an Archer Farms Simply Balanced pizza, such as Mediterranean Style Vegetable, bake as directed and then cut pizza into snackable, bite-sized pieces. A great way to get an easy serving of nutrient-packed vegetables.
- Garlic or Red Pepper Hummus: Simply serve with whole grain crackers, such as Archer Farms Simply Balanced whole grain eight grain crackers and veggie sticks. Hummus is packed with great flavor and health benefits, with chickpeas being an excellent source of fiber.
- Chips and Dip: Offer Archer Farms organic blue corn tortilla chips and organic mango peach salsa for a snack with a little kick. As an added health benefit, all products in the Archer Farms collection have zero grams of added trans fats.
- Fruit: Nothing is easier – or healthier – then serving a variety of fruit. Arrange the fruit in a festive Super Bowl-style bowl with low fat yogurt and honey for a dip and watch it disappear! Yogurt contains active live cultures and probiotics which promote digestive health and boost the immune system.
