Salvation Army helps buy Easter clothes for kids
Do you know a child 11 of younger who could use a new Easter outfit? The Salvation Army can help. As part of the 14th annual Dress an Angel program, eligible children can choose a dress, skirt or pant outfit for the Easter holiday. Applications are now being accepted for low-income Macomb County residents who would like to take advantage of this program.
The Salvation Army Warren Corps Community Center is accepting applications through March 11 for residents of southern Macomb County, including Warren, Roseville, Eastpointe and additional areas. The clothing will be distributed on Friday, April 2.
Children whose parents meet the income requirements will shop for a brand-new outfit with the assistance of a volunteer. In addition to the outfit, the Dress an Angel program will also provide children with socks, underwear, t-shirts, bras, belts, tights and other items.
Families in need of assistance should contact The Salvation Army’s Warren Corps Community Center located on 24140 Mound Rd. at (586) 754-7400. Applicants need to provide picture ID for all household adults, birth certificates for household children and proof of household income and expenses.
Empty Bowls Mean Empty Tummys

It breaks my heart to know that a child somewhere has an empty tummy and is hungry.
As a way to help combat hunger, enjoy a simple meal of soup and bread over music for a $10 donation. You will also take home a decorated bowl to remind you that someone’s bowl is always empty.
Proceeds from the event will benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank.
The event will be held at Assumption Cultural Center from noon-2 p.m. on Sunday, February 28,2010.

Sunday, December 6, 2009 from 1 p.m.- 4 p.m. We kick off
the season with a St. Nickolas Day Celebration Tea.
December 6 is celebrated by Europeans as St.
Nickolas Day when children would leave out their
shoes for St. Nick to place treats in. We encourage
our guests to live like a kid on this day and leave
their shoes in our hallway for St. Nickolas to fill.
Music at the pump organ and St. Nick will be there to
greet you with a photo opportunity in our beautiful
formal parlor. The tea will include; hot “Three Wives
Tea”, scones with Devonshire cream & jam, a variety
of tea sandwiches and desserts. Director Kim Parr
will introduce you to the interesting history of St.
Nicholas. Reservations are required, limited, and non-
refundable. Tickets are $30 for members of the
Macomb County Historical Society and $35 for non-
members. Please call the museum at 586-465-2488
for your reservation.

Romeo Peach Festival Sept 3- Sept 7

Labor Day. It signifies the end of summer for most. Kids are getting ready to go back to school. Parents are looking forward to their kids going back to school.
Not us. Our family usually sticks around town. We have our annual Labor Day party with our family and friends that stay in town. Many are loading up their cars and headed up north for the last summer hurrah.
Not us. We stick around. Staring at each other. We prepare for our annual Labor Day party that we have with our friends and family who remain in town.
But…
We are always on the look out for fun things to do that can entertain our family.
A couple of years ago we stumbled upon the Peach Festival in the Village of Romeo. Honestly, literally stumbled upon it. We got a little lost. But now, we go back every year. It’s something my kids look forward too. And so do we, the wallets…er…parents. It’s become part of our Labor Day weekend, back to school blow-out, TRADITION!
The Peach Festival http://www.peachfestromeo.com which is going into its 78th year, takes place Thursday September 3 through Labor day, September 7.
Check the website for the daily events and times, because there are many that take place.
Some of the highlights are lots of peach stands, a fair with rides and carnival games, arts and crafts fair, sidewalk sales, refreshment stands.
Plus, it’s in the beautiful Village of Romeo. Which, in and of itself, is worth the visit!
Trust me. You won’t regret the drive! And be sure to bring home bags of delicious Michigan peaches. Oh yeah…and the peach pie. The yummy peach pie.
Keep in mind, there are many wonderful orchards close to Romeo. Blakes Big Apple Orchard is one that I highly recommend.
