Here is your chance to take photos of the wild animal ambassadors who reside at theHowellConference & NatureCenter.  Led by well-known wildlife photographer, Steve Gettle, each workshop includes a lecture about photography techniques and several hours of shooting time.

This Saturday, November 19th will be anything but a “Silent Night” as the Greater Brighton Area Chamber of Commerce transforms Main Street in downtown Brighton into a “Winter Wonderland” at this year’s Holiday Glow from 4:00-7:00 p.m.

There will be plenty of activities to participate in for people of all ages including hayrides, a holiday choo-choo train, a nativity petting farm, and a station for children to write letters to Santa to take back with him to the North Pole.

Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on his sleigh at approximately 5:45 p.m. to receive the key to the city from the may and to light up the downtown, making it sparkle throughout the holidays.
There is no need to shop outside the city! You can surely find everything you need in your own “Little Town of Bethlehem” – Brighton! After the festivities, the downtown Brighton merchants invite you to shop, dine and unwind.

Fall is harvest season on the farm, and there will be a bounty of activities at the “Fall Farm Festival” on Saturday and Sunday, October 8 and 9, at Kensington Metropark Farm Center near Milford/Brighton.

Visit the farm animals and get a glimpse of farm life at the festival with special demonstrations. Traditional carpentry methods using mortise and tenon joints in post and beam construction will be demonstrated, as will apple cider making and beekeeping. Laugh along with Rosco the Clown’s antics, and take a walk to the Kids’ Cottage, an all-natural building made of compressed earthen blocks and straw bales and explore the nearby corn maze. Plus, try paddling a canoe or kayak for a nominal fee with Heavner Canoe Rental.

The Community Theatre of Howell will hold an open audition for its holiday musical “White Christmas” at the Howell High School Freshman Campus, 1400 W. Grand River Ave. in Howell.

Male and female roles are available in every age category, dancing roles and some non-singing roles. Auditions for the children’s chorus and the role of Susan will begin August 12th at 6 p.m. Auditions for all supporting roles, tap, dance and vocal ensembles will begin August 13th at 9:30 a.m. A dance workshop is recommended and begins at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10.

Performances are scheduled for Nov. 11-13 and Nov. 17-20.

The Kensington Metropark Golf Course officially opened for the season on Thursday, April 14. This season, a new golf starter building will be constructed at Kensington and the construction will change golf operations this season.

During the construction, the golf course will operate out of a temporary starter facility with limited food service. The new golf starter building, which will be twice the size of the old one, will open in 2012. The building will accommodate golfers in the summer and skiers in the winter.

Kensington Metropark is offering special construction rate through April 22. Golfers can play 18 holes for $13, $10 for seniors 62 and older and juniors 20 years-old and younger, plus cart rental.

All other regulation courses within the Huron-Clinton Metroparks system are open as well.

A Metroparks vehicle permit is required to enter the any Metropark. The cost is $25 for an annual sticker, $15 annually for seniors or $5 daily.

Detroit Mommies was design to foster connections between moms in the Detroit area. Through this website, moms have learned about activities, great products and made connections. We want to help enhance the connections and continue to grow the sense of community that has developed here.

Several moms have expressed interest in forming groups with others across the region. We are available to help put the call out to other moms who might be interested in these groups.

The Northfield Township Area Library in Whitmore Lake presents Baffling Bill, one of Michigan’s most renowned magicians, on Thursday, February 17 from 6:30 – 7:30.

This Magic Workshop is for kids ages 7 – 11.  Baffling Bill has performed at the library during the Summer Reading Club, and now he is going to share his expertise.
