Hartland Player’s Encore Youth Theatre presents Seussical Jr.

Tickets are now on sale for Seussical Jr. presented by the Hartland Player’s Encore Youth Theatre.

The story of Seussical Jr. centers around Horton the Elephant who finds himself faced with a double challenge- he has to not only protect his tiny friend Jojo, and all the invisible Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must also guard an abandoned egg left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird.  It’s a story that will make you laugh and cry and is a pleasure for all ages.

Performances are scheduled for Saturday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 7 at 3:00 p.m. and tickets can be purchased for $5 at the main branch of the Cromaine Library in downtown Hartland.  Advanced ticket purchases are highly recommended.

Seussical Jr. will be presented at the Performing Arts Center in the Hartland Educational Support Service Center located at 9525 Highland Road, Howell, MI 48843.

Max and Ruby at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts

Brighton Center for the Performing Arts (7878 Brighton Rd. Brighton) is thrilled to welcome Max & Ruby to the stage this Saturday, February 20th. at 2p.m.  

 

Max & Rubyis Rosemary Wells’ story of beloved bunny siblings Max and Ruby.  Watch them come to life on stage in a funfilled musical production for the whole family.

Seven-year-old Ruby and her little brother Max want to put on a play for Grandma.  But, as is typical with the mischievous Max and his older sister Ruby, some comedic hurdles arise along the way, and Ruby needs to call on her Bunny Scout friends to help them try to finish the play on time.

Howell Opera House and MainStreet Winery host Speakeasy Night for the Big Read

As part of the Howell Carnegie District Library’s month long Big Read Program featuring The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett, The Howell Opera House and MainStreet Winery will host a Speakeasy Night on February 12.

The Big Read is an initiative of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest.  Libraries across the country applied for a grant to participate in the program and can choose a book from a list of 30 on which to focus their program.

Howell Carnegie District Library chose Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon because of the areas love of mysteries.  Most of their Big Read planned events are mystery-centric and early 1900s-themed.

Speakeasy Night will begin at 6:00 p.m. at  Mainstreet Winery, 201 W. Grand River.

Wear your long pearls, boa’s, zuit suits, flappers & fedoras.  Music from the 20’s will be playing all evening, prohibition signage will be out as to not tip off that wine will be served during this event in coffee cups. The password to get in is “Joe sent me”.  The evening is sure to be a hoot!

The Accoustic Cafe portion featuring Pete Fetters Band starts at 7:30 at the Howell Opera House, 123 W. Grand River.  Tickets are $5.00.

Chenille Sisters kids show at Brighton Center for the Performing Arts

The Chenille Sisters celebrate silly better than just about anyone especially when they perform for kids. You’ll be overcome with laughter when you see kids and adults imitating an agitator during “The Washing Machine Song” and learn new dance moves to  “Locomotion.”  There are costumes, skits, surprises and tons of laughs.

With the Chenilles’ warm, wacky, join-right-in style, this show has a way of making kids feel like there’s a big, sparkly star smack in the middle of their foreheads!

The Chenille Sisters Kids Show is on the same day as their Signature Show!  A performance for the kids and then an encore for the adults!  The Chenille Sisters will be at the BCPA on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00PM.  Tickets are $9.00 for reserved seating.

The Brighton Center for the Performing Arts 2010 Children’s Cultural Series invites you to  see Gemini and the Livingston County Chorale Children’s Chorus on Saturday, January 16 at 2 p.m.

Twin brothers Sam and Laz perform a variety of sing-along songs, hand motion tunes, folk tales, and music from around the world.  They also sing original songs about the everyday experiences of childhood and growing up.  Everyone from babies to grandparents love to sing along with Gemini who also display their talents on nearly a dozen instruments.

The show is tremendous fun with everything from laughter and boisterous fun to hushed lullabies and tender ballads.

The Community Theatre of Howell will perform ”Schoolhouse Rock Live!, Jr.” at the Howell High School freshman campus on December 18, 19 and 20.

Based on the Emmy® Award-winning 1970s educational cartoon series, Schoolhouse Rock Live! Junior uses a wide variety of musical styles to teach grammar, math, science, history, social studies and political science while telling the story of Tom, a nerve-wracked schoolteacher nervous about his first day of teaching. He tries to relax by watching TV when various characters representing facets of his personality emerge from the set and show him how to win his students over with imagination and music, through such beloved Schoolhouse Rock songs as “Just A Bill,” “A Noun is a Person, Place or Thing” and “Conjunction Junction.” Children just discovering the TV series to “Generation X-ers” seeking a taste of nostalgia willdelight in this sure-fire entertainment that’s simply good, clean – and educational – fun.

The wonderful libraries of Livingston County have all scheduled great events for awesome, holiday fun this month.  A variety of opportunities are available for all ages and families through the end of December.

December 16

The Cromaine Library in Hartland is inviting teens to create make and take gifts for friends, family or themselves!  Starting at 5 p.m. they can  make hot cocoa mix, decorative candles and scented bath salts.  Registration is required, call 810-632-5200 or visit www.cromaine.org

“Wonderful” Holiday Theatre Options in Livingston County

Livingston County is offering many theatre choices this holiday season starting with The Community Theatre of Howell’s presentation of “Oklahoma!“  This classic tells the story of two young cowboys who win over their sweethearts in the Oklahoma territory at the turn of the century.  Featuring musical favorites “Oh What a Beautiful Morning, ” and  “People Will Say We’re in Love,” “Oklahoma!” will be performed at the Howell High School Freshman Campus on Friday, November 20 at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 22 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults and $16 for students and seniors at the door.   The Howell High School Freshman Campus is located at 1400 W. On November 27 and 28 at 8 p.m. the Hartland Players will present “A Christmas Story” at the Hartland Performing Arts Center.  The classic story of Ralphie a young boy growing up in the 1940’s who dreams of owning a Red Rider BB gun and all the opposition he finds as he tries to convince the world it’s the perfect gift.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for seniors/students and are available at the main branch of the Cromaine Library and Hartland Big Boy.  One dollar of each ticket will be donated to Adopt a Family Christmas program.  Photos with Santa and Mrs. Claus will be available before the performance and during intermission and the House of Fudge will be selling homemade fudge for those early Christmas shoppers and donating a portion of their sales to Adopt a Family Christmas Program.  The Hartland Performing Arts Center is located at 9525 Highland Road in the Hartland Educational Support Service Center.  For more information visit www.hartlandplayers.org or call 810-632 5849.
