I have a niece who is in her first year of college – it’s also her first time living away from home. She is super busy with classes, labs, concerts, and running her own Etsy store. Somehow I doubt that stocking her medicine cabinet with basic essential items is very high on her list of priorities. As a mom, I know that this is the time of year I stock up my medicine cabinet with essentials- so now she can too, with this kit.
We celebrated her graduation from high school with a party. The big”send off” featured custom homemade cupcakes, catered food and hugs and kisses by family & friends. Then, she was off to her new apartment. I’m sure the apartment “newness” has partially worn off and it’s down to the day-to-day business of every day living. I thought it would be helpful to put together a College Essential Kit for her for those days when she is not feeling so good.
I started off with a giant clear container. I added a label to dress it up. The fact that the container is see-through keeps the items right there in front of her – not so easy to forget my dear! Both the container and the label are re-usable (just erase the words).
Here’s what you will need to put your kit together:
A large clear container. I found mine at the dollar store
A chalk board label from the craft store.
Chalk
Graduation ceremony stickers. Plenty to choose from the craft store.
Instructions:
Put your college essentials inside the container. Place the label on the outside of the container—slowly pushing it down to remove the air bubbles. Place your decorative stickers on the label. Use the chalk to personalize it with a message.
Here’s what I put in my niece’s essentials kit:

Four pair of wacky super soft socks – I wanted to personalize the kit and knew that she is a huge fan of Tie Dye. The bright colorful socks were as close to tie dye as I could get. She sells Tie Dyed items in her Etsy store.
I easily found all contents of my kit at Walmart – right by the front door in the pharmacy section.
