Get hands-on this holiday season during Holidays in Henry Ford Museum,November 28, 2014 – January 4, 2015. Featuring new activities for kids, new buildings inside the LEGO ® train display in Depot Town and the return of Santa and a 25-foot Christmas tree, there is plenty to see and do to get into the holiday spirit.
Each Saturday from November 29 – January 3, 2015, Tinker. Hack. Invent will offer activities for kids to take part in including make your own paper circuit holiday cards, activities from the U.S. Forest Service and a visit from community maker, the 501st Legion, a Star War’s Costuming Group on December 27th. Tinker.Hack.Invent activities are free and located inside the Museum Plaza.
Also located in the museum plaza, is the not-to-be-missed 25-foot Christmas tree, beautifully decorated with over 500 ornaments including planes, trains, and cars highlighting the spirit of innovation. Guests can follow the spirit of the season down the Silver and Pewter aisle where Santa will be waiting to hear everyone’s Christmas wishes. This is a perfect opportunity to get a couple of holiday photos. Santa is here Monday-Friday 10 am-4 pm, and Saturday and Sunday 9:30 am-5 pm. Guests can also leave a wish list or thank-you letter for Santa in our LEGO® mailbox.
Over in Depot Town next to the Allegheny Locomotive, guests can sit inside the Bangor and Aroostook train to hear classic holiday stories, including Chris Van Allsburg’s The Polar Express. Celebrating its 10th anniversary, guests can also see the tale on Michigan’s biggest screen at the Henry Ford IMAX Theatre beginning Dec.1, 2014. For train enthusiasts, the LEGO® and Lionel train displays will be back with new buildings decorated for the winter season including Old Mackinac Point LightHouse and historic buildings found in Greenfield Village.
Guests will also have the chance to step inside Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame exhibition before it leaves on January 4, 2015. During its only stop to Michigan, football fans will have the chance to see the Vince Lombardi Trophy and items provided by hometown heroes, the Detroit Lions.
