Recently, I was lucky enough to receive a Samsung Galaxy Gear in gray . I was very anxious to test one of these new gadgets out that Verizon Wireless currently offers. I found both pros and cons about this device! I’ll explain…

Let me describe what exactly this innovative device is all about. Samsung Galaxy Gear is elegant tech that you wear like a watch. I thought it would look odd on my wrist, but it didn’t. It communicates with your Galaxy Note 3, providing a stylish and powerful way for you to see important notifications, as well as take phone calls, shoot photos and video and even count your steps. The watch had a built in pedometer on it. This function I LOVED! I am all about getting my 10,000 plus steps in a day and this helped keep track of them! It also passes information to your smartphone, creating a seamless experience between the two. Galaxy Gear frees you from constantly reaching for your Galaxy Note 3 while still keeping you connected.

How Samsung Galaxy Gear Works
It runs on Android™—just like your phone—and uses low-power Bluetooth® to connect wirelessly to a compatible smartphone. With intuitive swipes, gestures and apps built specifically for Galaxy Gear, you’ll be wearing it every day. Galaxy Gear features a 1.63-inch touchscreen with colors that are vivid and bright, and 320 x 320 resolution.

You glance at an email on your Galaxy Gear but want to read it on a bigger screen. When you grab your Galaxy Note 3, Galaxy Gear communicates to it with Smart Relay, triggering your phone to instantly open the email. When you wear Galaxy Gear, Smart Lock automatically unlocks your smartphone. And when you move more than 5 feet from the phone, Galaxy Gear alerts it that you’re not nearby, triggering the phone to lock. Galaxy Gear can also remotely activate sounds or vibrate alerts to help you find a misplaced phone. All of this new technology was fascinating to me and I did like it. However, personally I didn’t need it.

I think something like this would be perfect for the working parent who needs to constantly stay in touch with their child. Recently, instead of phone calls, I have noticed my daughter’s teacher only e-mails. This device is great for instances like that. Furthermore more, a person with a job that demands an easy way to connect – this device is ideal. However, for a stay at home Mommy, I would much rather have the Fitbit Flex. That device meets my every day needs much better! Don’t get me wrong, it’s GREAT and I did enjoy having it – I am simply saying not a device I actually need.
