Are You an Expert at Barbecuing?

Oakland County Parks and Recreation and Lathrup Village invite teams to register for a barbecue rib cooking competition in the second annual BBQ Battle at the Summer in the Village Festival on Saturday, June 16 at Lathrup Village Municipal Park.

“This year’s BBQ Battle will be bigger and better. The festival focuses on gardens; displays and items to enhance your backyard; grilling and eating; and kids’ activities.  What better atmosphere for a summer barbecue competition?” Recreation Program Supervisor Laurie Stasiak said.

The event runs from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. and is limited to the first 24 registered teams. Entry is $35/team. Competitors supply their own grills and may use wood, charcoal or gas. Teams check-in from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. Judging begins at 3:30 p.m. Cash prizes provided by the Lathrup Village Foundation; first place, $300; second place, $200; and third place $100.

Admission is free for spectators. The event features a “Nature Myth Busters” table and climbing tower sponsored by Oakland County Parks and Recreation plus an art fair, music, mini-pub, grilling demonstrations, food court, and more.

Lathrup Village Municipal Park is located directly behind the Lathrup Village Municipal Building at 27400 Southfield Road.
