Fall is probably my favorite time of year, probably because Halloween is included.   The specially packaged trick-or-treat candy that’s in all the stores right now is so tempting.    I usually buy some early and it never makes it to October 31st.  We always end up running out at the last minute to buy “replacement” candy for all the little (and sometimes big) goblins.

There is a new candy on the shelf this year; M&M’s Candy Corn White Chocolate candies.  They are sold exclusively at WalMart.  I was selected to participate in a project with collective bias to create a recipe using them.  They are just now starting to trickle into the stores so keep your eye out for them.  I found them in a special bin right up near the registers.  They taste mostly like white chocolate to me – very good and quite addicting.  Click here for a great M&M coupon.

I came up with a festive Halloween recipe for Candy Corn Sugar Cookie Pizza. It was pretty easy to make – the hardest part was melting the M&M’s for the “pizza sauce” frosting – this was only because I separated the colors and made 3 different batches.  I also entered this recipe in the M&M’s get corny recipe and craft contest.  You can vote once a day – click here to vote.  Take a look and see what you think, I thought it turned out great and would make a great Halloween Party treat.

I started off with my standby sugar cookie recipe.  It makes a pretty big batch, which meant I had some left over to make some regular cookies.

Sugar Cookie Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup butter – softened

2 cups sugar

2 eggs

1 cup milk

5 cups flour (sometimes I have to add more if the dough is too sticky)

4 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

  1.  Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until well mixed
  2. Add eggs and then milk slowly (mixture will not be real smooth)
  3. Mix all the dry ingredients together in a separate bowl
  4. Add the dry ingredients into the butter/sugar in about 3 batches.  If the dough seems sticky add a little more flour
  5. Seal the bowl and refrigerate for two hours.
  6. On a floured surface roll out about ½ of the dough until you have a circle large enough to fit a 12 inch pizza pan.  Make sure you flour the surface well or it will stick.
  7. Gently pick the dough up (I folded mine a few times) and place on the ungreased pizza pan.
  8. Bake at 350 degrees for about 8 minutes – until it starts to brown slightly.  Keep an eye on it.
  9. Set aside and let it cool

Candy Corn White Chocolate M&M Frosting

Ingredients

2 bags of candy corn white chocolateM&M’s (you will have left-over for snacking)

½ cup milk or half and half (divided)

½ cup chopped salted peanuts

Instructions

  1.  Separate the yellow, white and orange M&M’s
  2. Start with the white ones – you will need about ½ cup, you need the least of this color.
  3. Place them in a microwaveable dish and add 1 tablespoon milk or half and half.  Stir to coat the M&M’s
  4. Microwave the mixture – I started with 25 seconds and then gave it a stir.  It took a couple of 25 second runs to get it pretty creamy.  The shells will break up and start to dissolve.  If the mixture is melted but still has pieces of shell in it, you can keep stirring by hand or use a hand mixer to smooth out.  Mine was not perfectly smooth but worked just find.
  5. With the frosting make a small circle in the center of the pizza – this will be the white tip of the candy corn slices.  I spread mine around with the back of a spoon. If you are going to add any decorations make sure you do it while the frosting is soft.
  6. Repeat these steps for orange – using about ¾ cups of orange M&M’s and about a tablespoon and a half of milk or half and half.
  7. Once mixture is smooth enough make a ring a few inches wide, right next to the white frosting.  Make sure the white frosting has hardened so the two colors don’t mix.
  8. Repeat these steps for yellow – you will need 1 cup of the M&M’s and 2 tablespoons of milk or half and half.
  9. Spread the yellow to make the last ring of the candy corn – I immediately added the crushed peanuts around the edge so they would stick in the soft frosting.  C
  10. Cut with pizza cutter and enjoy!
