Oakland County Parks and Recreation hosts its first-ever Air Fair on Aug. 4 7, featuring hot air balloons, sailplanes, human-size model airplanes, kite flying and Great Turtle Toys at Groveland Oaks County Park.

“We will be showcasing different kinds of sports that people don’t hear much about and they can learn how to get involved with the activities,” Derenda LeFevre, Outdoor Adventure and Mobile Recreation program supervisor, said.  For patrons who want to come out for the day, the Air Fair on Saturday runs from 2 – 10 p.m. with demonstrations and musical performances, a birds of prey presentation at 2:30 p.m., an Inflatable Zone for the kids, a giant bubble zone, caricatures, face paintings, a puppet show and hayrides.

On Saturday from 2 – 8 p.m., guests can watch the North American BloKart Sailing Association’s “sail boats on wheels” and electrically launched eight-foot model airplanes by the Greater Detroit Soaring and Hiking Society.

Hot air balloons will launch on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 7 a.m. by members of the Southeastern Michigan Balloon Association.  The weekend campground recreation program includes kite making and the DJ glow dance.

Groveland Oaks County Park is located at 14555 Dixie Highway in Holly.
