Darius Rucker with special guest Luke Bryan will perform at DTE Energy Music Theatre on Thursday, September 17 at 7:30 p.m.

As the frontman of Hootie & the Blowfish, Darius Rucker changed the face of mainstream pop/rock in the mid-1990s. The band released their first album, Cracked Rear View (1994), which yielded such hit singles as “Hold My Hand” and “Only Wanna Be with You” and “Let Her Cry.”  Within a year of its release, the album had gone multi-platinum selling more than 16 million copies and became one of the most successful albums of all time.

In 2008, Rucker went in the studio to record the tracks for his solo country release, Learn To Live.  The first single “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It” instantly struck a chord with country listeners.  The single sat at the top of the charts, making Rucker the first African-American singer to reach that position since Charley Pride did so with “Night Games” in 1983.

Learn to Live was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in February 2009, as was “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It.”  The album’s second single, “It Won’t Be Like This for Long,” was released shortly afterward. The song became Rucker’s second number one on the Billboard country charts in early 2009, spending three weeks at the top. The album’s third single, “Alright,” also became a Top 10 hit.

Luke Bryan released his debut album, I’ll Stay Me, in 2007, which included hit singles “All My Friends Say,” “We Rode in Trucks” and “Country Man.”  Currently, his latest single “Do I” is topping charts and building anticipation for his second album, Doin’ My Thing, due out on October. 6.
