Selfridge Air Show scheduled for Aug. 22-23

Look! Up in the sky! It’s a bird!

No, it’s a plane. And they are loud!

As someone who lives very near Selfridge Air National Guard Base, I can tell you the air show is coming and it’s only about to get louder, which will make my kids’ naptime and television watching nearly impossible.

However, I have to admit, those talented pilots and their planes put on quite a show that I can watch from my backyard. On Aug. 22 and 23, the public is invited to the base to get their own up-close and personal look at the planes and learn more about what each cab do.

Planes and jets like the Thunderbirds, F-15, F-16, C-130, tankers and helicopters in use today will be putting on aerial demonstrations and be available on the ground to walk through and explore.

The air show is a family-friendly event.  Be prepared for loud noises, lots of walking, time in the sun and low flying aircraft. The Selfridge Air Show web site ( has information on what you can bring in and what you should leave at home.

The shows open at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Flying begins at 11 a.m.

Enjoy the show!
