Summertime in Michigan means carnivals, street fairs, lazy days at the park, picnics by a lake, bike rides around town and movies in the park.  There are so many wonderful activities to participate in in the Detroit area and surrounding suburbs, that you need to get ready for a fun-filled summer full of memories that you will cherish for a lifetime.  But, summer also means it’s time to pump up the tires, invest in some good walking shoes for the kids, buy protection from the sun and make the most yours and your children’s time spent outdoors.

Buying the right shoes can be the difference in your child having a safe experience at the park playgrounds or a frightful fall from a slip while climbing, jumping and running.  Rubber souls are a must and a sneaker type shoe is your best and safest bet.  When buying shoes for my 3 year old and 5 year old I usually head over to Lakeside Mall.  There are 180 specialty stores  anchored by Sears, JCPenny,Macy’s and Lord & Taylor.  I always find what I need and the children love the neat play area outside of Lord & Taylor.

I get most of my children’s gear at the local Target because they not only have everything, but the prices are right for a mom of three girls.  I get bathing suits, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks and beach towels all at Target.  If you need a pump for the bicycles tires, a helmet, or bug repellent, Target is your one stop shop for all of your summer gear!

Summer can be a lot of fun if you buy the essential gear to keep your family safe and protected.  Just think… the money spent at the emergency room or doctors office could be spent on a family road trip or weekend camping trip.
